Waterfalls Near Chennai, Tamil Nadu

There are many places and attractions in and around Chennai City.

But there isn't any River or Waterfalls flowing down the city keeps something missing and especially during summer season, it feels like an empty. This makes all the Chennai living people to visit beaches, which is the one and only option let over. But people who wish to get out from the city, have a short drive and with some daring adventure get refreshed in fresh water, those will look for either of the following 3 options.

1. Koney Falls (Kailasakona Waterfalls) :

Kailasakona Falls is a waterfall situated on the border of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, around 92 km from Chennai. The place is good for a short one day trip. The sheer breath of the falls have gone down over the years. Best times to visit would be post monsoon after a good rain season. The drive to the place is heptic, as the roads are frequently used by container lorries, it will be a bumpy dumpy experience. Just be aware of the number of naughty monkeys, avoid packed food or snacks which the cute monkeys would forcefully grab.  There is a small Temple here too. If you are able to climb the hill there is small pond from where water is coming down, which is the most awesome part of this falls. Some times this water looks fresh. Can get into this pond and play. But the route to this pond is quite not clear. You have to search a little bit if you are going for the first time. So, be careful. Also there ate broken glass bottle piece inside and outside the pond, which was made by the locals over there. These can tear-of our legs and foot. So be very careful. It's not that much worth, when compared to Tada or Nagallapuram Waterfalls, but compared to those, this is somewhat easily accessible.

2. Tada Falls (Ubbalamadugu Waterfalls) :

Ubbalamudugu Falls is a waterfall situated on the border of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, around 95 km from Chennai. It's a crystal clear waterfalls falling from a height of 100-odd meters making it a glorious sight.

It gives us a Wild experience and the place was just awesome. Good location for one day visit nearby Chennai. If you like adventurous trekking, then this is the good place to trek into dense forest. 2 wheelers or 4 wheelers are allowed up to 4km from check point. These 4 kms are full of bumpoy sand and stone roads. We’ve to climb a small hill, crossing the dam / lake. From there, you have to walk approximately 3 Km into foothills to reach Waterfalls. In between, many places are there to have fun with friends and family. One awesome Swimming pool is there. You can swim in the natural water streams all the way.

It is your own risk to visit this place. There is no mobile network or facility for emergency contact. No securities provided in between. So, go with your family or group of friends.
There are many Andhra state people, who visits the falls frequently along with their large family, carrying their lunch too. It was a one day picnic kind-of trip from them it seems.

3. Nagallapuram Falls :

Nagallapuram Falls is a waterfall situated on the border of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, around 70 km from Chennai. (Nearest among the others).

A perfect place for swimmers, trekkers and campers. About 12-13 kms of trek to and fro to the 3rd pool, the first two once are not that clean. The third one is really clean and perfect for swimming. These pools are located at multiple heights. You will find a lot of monkeys, so beware with your belongings, especially food. You can camp too at the base from where trek starts. Do return back before it gets too dark. Keep food and water stock with yourself. Coconut waters and some fruits from local people can be found at the camping place during the day. You will find the water stream after walking some distance. Also, you can opt to walk in the water for sometime instead of taking the path, it's really fun when little fishes bite your legs.  It will make us tired by walking and it's worth for it. Contains fresh water. We can even able to see till the bottom point under water-surface.
